How to make a Minecraft Saddle

Wondering how to make a Saddle in Minecraft? Finally, you can stop opening all of the chests you come across in the Overworld in a hurried attempt to get your hands on a Saddle. As of Minecraft’s Chase the Skies 1.21.6 update, Saddles are now craftable, and it’s easier than ever to make one, place it on your steed, and ride away.
If you’re wondering what materials you need to hoard in order to saddle up on your mount, you’re in the right place. In this guide, we’ll explain how to make a Saddle in Minecraft, and we’ll also give a brief explanation of the Saddle’s uses.
How to make a Minecraft Saddle
To make a Saddle in Minecraft, you need to follow this crafting recipe:
- 3 Leather: Place one on the top or middle row of the crafting table, and the others on the row below, with an open space for the Iron.
- 1 Iron Ingot: Place within the open space.
Your Saddle will be ready afterwards! Nice work; prior to the 1.21.6 update, you often had to resort to fishing or chest-delving in order to get a Saddle.
If you’re not sure why it’s worth the time to go through all this trouble, know that Saddles are used to control the movement of mounts. To use one, put it in the inventory of the mount of your choice – for instance, a Horse, Donkey, or so on – and that mount will equip the Saddle. You can now ride the mount and control the direction that they move in.
Some mounts can be ridden without a Saddle – for example, Camels, Donkeys, Horses, and Mules – but your movement will be entirely at their mercy. There are also certain mounts that will not let you control their movement even with a Saddle; notably Pigs and Striders. To control these critters, you’ll need a Carrot on a Stick (crafted from a Fishing Rod and a Carrot) or a Warped Fungus on a Stick (crafted from a Fishing Rod and a Warped Fungus), respectively.
To remove a Saddle from a mount, simply use Shears on the mount. The Saddle will be transported back into your inventory.
