Shiny Growlithe is available in Pokémon Go!
Released in September 2018, shiny Growlithe has been available in Pokémon Go for very long time, which means shiny Arcanine, its evolved form, can be collected too.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at what shiny Growlithe looks like and Growlithe’s perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go.

Is Growlithe shiny in Pokémon Go?
Yes, Growlithe can be shiny in Pokémon Go.
Shiny Growlithe was released in September 2018 as part of the Out to Play event.
While Growlithe has never had a Community Day, it has been around long enough that it’s not massively rare. We’d say it’s uncommon at best – especially with the number of events like Kanto Tour that have made it easier to pick up. However, if you’re exclusively free-to-play, there’s a still a chance you haven’t come across one yet!
What does shiny Growlithe look like?
Shiny Growlithe is the original golden boi. Its oranges are now golden and its tufts of fur are a yellowish colour. In reality, it looks like they simply dropped the red slider.
The same goes for Arcanine they wanted the Legendary Pokémon (yes, that’s its Category even though it isn’t actually a Legendary Pokémon) to look shiny and rare. The main difference is that it is yellower than shiny Growlithe. It’s also worth noting that the black stripes on both shiny Pokémon are less deep than the regular versions, which is a shame – a deeper black would have made the golds really pop. Either way, both are pretty cool.
You see how both of these shiny forms compare below.
Shiny Growlithe encounter rates
The shiny encounter rates for Growlithe in Pokémon Go depend on the method you’re using to obtain it. If it’s a Go Pass encounter, then you’ll be working with either the base shiny rate or the slightly boosted one for uncommon Pokémon. According to the Pokémon Go wiki, the base rate is estimated to be 1/512 (+0.2%) and the uncommon rate is 1/128 (+0/8%).

How to get shiny Growlithe and perfect IV stats
Whether you can find Growlithe in the wild depends on the season – the in-game event season that is – and what is spawning. If you’re lucky, a one-off event such a Spotlight Hour or Go Tour may feature Growlithe, giving you a chance to go shiny hunting. That said, unless those events specifically state that you can get a shiny Growlithe, you’re just going to have to rely on dumb luck.
This means walking and clicking on every Growlithe you see. The average shiny rate for a non-boosted Pokémon is around 1/500, meaning that for every 500 Growlithe you see, one is probably going to be shiny. If you check your Pokédex and seen you have 499 encounters, however, that doesn’t mean your next one is a guaranteed shiny – that’s not how maths works.
The Delightful Days season is here and Go Fest 2025 is on the horizon! The Ancients Recovered event is live, bringing the Go Pass: Ancients Recovered,Hyper Training and Gold Bottle Caps.
You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest.
Don’t forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you’re hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.
Growlithe 100% perfect stats in Pokémon Go
When talking about a Growlithe with 100% perfect stats in Pokémon Go, you’re looking for one with 15/15/15 stats to create a maxed out, 100% IV Pokémon, for your 4* Pokédex, raids and the Master League.
If you’re looking in the wild and are at least Level 30 (or above), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Growlithe:
- Level 30 (wild CP maximum) – 1066 CP
- Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP maximum) – 1154 CP
The wild CP value aligns with your Trainer Level until you reach Level 30 and, due to the majority of the player base now being above this level, we’ve kept to these values for the sake of simplicity. These values will, however, be different if you’re currently below Level 30.
Best of luck hunting down shiny Growlithe!
